Just a quick scan a project I work on for for a few days every year or so, lol. You can see the silver thread depending from the ribbons under the griffin.
Fun fact: 'Family Crest' is actually kind of a misnomer. As far as I understand (and I'm no expert on genealogy) a crest belongs to a person, not a family. So if two nobles married, for example, their crests would then include added motifs from the other.
My dad's family comes from Sussex, England and were probably high-class servants to the clergy (Page, get it?). But in all of my limited searching, this seems to be a crest consistent with the name. Even though I have no ownership over the crest personally, it's still a fun project. I'll post a photo when I'm done so you can see the metallic thread better. But don't hold your breath.
ps: Why doesn't DevArt have an embroidery category yet?
